The Child Dental Benefits Schedule was introduced by the Australian Government to provide financial assistance to families and encourage children and teenagers to care for their oral health and to introduce them to preventive care solutions by having regular examinations and hygiene appointments.
The examination and hygiene appointments assist in reducing dental disease during a period of higher risk and promotes maintaining good oral health habits once they leave home and begin venturing out on their own.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides dental benefits up to $1000 every two years per eligible child to help families with the cost of an oral examination, radiographs, preventive services and treatment. It is a means tested plan and eligible families will automatically receive a letter in the post. We encourage parents to call Medicare to find out about their children’s eligibility, before attending their appointments.
Island Dental chooses to Bulk Bill for all services eligible under the Child Dental Benefit Scheme, meaning there is no gap payment for most services including an examination, hygiene appointment, any necessary radiographs and restorations.
All patients using the Child Dental Benefits Schedule will be appointed with our Oral Health Therapist, specifically trained in treating this age group.
